There has been a lot of talk surrounding the recent news that Fiat, one of the most respected Italian car manufacturers, bought a controlling stake, around 20%, of American car manufactures; Chrysler. Fiat have been a huge name on the European automobile market for a very long time and have recently released several new models that are gaining critical acclaim for their fuel economy, design and practicality.
Fiat Models To Be Released On North American Continent
Never before have Fiat released their vehicles in America and it will be interesting to see how their automobiles fare, state-side. The new Fiat models could all be classified as looking rather “cute”, especially the Fiat 500 (pictured), 500C and the Fiat Punto Evo. This has made them very popular in Europe, along with their very small size, especially with female buyers.
When one thinks of American cars, one thinks of big, muscular and angular fuel guzzlers that take up a lot of space on the road. Whilst this is not entirely the case, as the world makes an attempt to become greener, there is some element of truth to it when one thinks about the popularity of muscle cars and trucks like the Dodge Ram and Ford F-150.
How Will The American Audience React To Fiat’s Takeover?
Whilst the new Fiat cars that could make their way over the pond do seem to be the opposite of the traditional American car, it could be this big difference that makes them so popular. They should be rather successful within big cities for their fuel economy and ability to park almost anywhere, especially the three models talked about earlier.
What Will Happen With The Chrysler Line-Up?
The Chrysler line-up should expect a small cull. There are several models that are not selling particularly well, such as the PT Cruiser, that will not see re-release in 2011. Don’t forget that Dodge are also owned by Fiat now, because they had been previously owned by Chrysler and they too should expect that several models from their line-up will be discontinued.
These older models will make way for new Fiat models and also new Alfa Romeo and Lancia models fresh off the boat from Europe. It is an exciting time for the American car market, no doubt, and it will be interesting to see how the new models fare. On paper, one would think that Americans will take some persuading to embrace the new Fiat line-up, but considering their success in Europe, one would also think that they should do just fine.
